Swing By started with a very ordinary moment: standing at the door with a toddler on one hip, about to head to the park, and thinking "someone else would probably like to come." The options were all wrong. A group chat means messaging twenty people who didn't ask. A calendar invite turns a walk to the swings into a scheduled event. Posting publicly invites strangers into your kid's afternoon. So we made the smallest possible thing instead. You add the parents you actually know, with their kids' names. You share a plan: where, when, who's coming from your family. You pick a handful of people to let know. They answer with one tap, and that's it. We also built this around a simple belief: the afternoon should be good for the parent too, not just the kid. Standing at the edge of a playground scrolling your phone isn't much of an afternoon. Catching up with a friend while the kids run around is. And kids feel this too, more than we usually give them credit for. Give a kid one friend and they'll have a nice time. Give them a few friends, plus a couple of adults chatting nearby, and something better happens. Kids don't just want a playmate, they want to be around people, more voices, more energy, more grown-ups to show off for. A bigger, more mixed group tends to be a better afternoon for everyone in it, not a more complicated one. No feed. No chat. No discovering strangers. Just the parents you already trust, and the small ordinary plans that make up a childhood. It's not an invitation. It's just a heads up.
